NATUROPATHIC THERAPIES
Naturopaths utilise a number of different Naturopathic therapies in order to ensure that their treatments are holistic and tailored to suit the individuals' needs. Common Naturopathic therapies are described in some detail below. All Naturopathic therapies are based on a combination of traditional and evidence-based medicine.
Lifestyle Education
Lifestyle education forms the basis of all Naturopathic treatment plans and is essential for supporting healing and optimising health and wellbeing. Naturopaths educate patients in particular areas of lifestyle in order to assist the individual to reach health goals, and to complement other prescribed therapies. Patients are typically educated in areas including stress management, relaxation practices, sleep protocol, exercise, hydrotherapy, topical skin treatments, self-massage, non-toxic living and more.
Food and Nutrition
Food and nutrition play a fundamental role in health and wellbeing. The human body requires adequate levels of essential nutrients in order to function optimally. Naturopaths assess an individual’s nutrient adequacy, food quality, dietary behaviours and habits to determine where dietary modifications are required. Food and nutrition prescriptions consist of dietary modifications and may involve dietary therapy. Appropriate nutritional supplements are considered where there is an increased demand for nutrients, which cannot be met through food alone.
Herbal Medicine
Herbal Medicine is the oldest and most widely used Medicine system in the world. Herbal Medicines are derived from parts of a plant or plant materials containing biologically active compounds. These Medicines work with the body to generate physiological changes, which restore balance to the mind and body, helping to manage and alleviate health conditions. Herbal Medicine may be prescribed in the form of liquids, tablets, teas and topical creams.
